As part of the Siobhan Davies Dance artist and curator mentorship scheme I was invited to create a temporary intervention within the environment created by Allan Kaprow's YARD (1961/2014) at The Hepworth Wakefield.
My response to YARD involved the presence of two dance artists in the gallery space working through ideas of multiplication, parasitism and camouflage. I was interested in what it was to share space with all the bodies of the tires, how the activities of people within the installation might alternate from background to foreground as the tires shift from being their own context-en masse-to emerging as a context for something else.
Using mirrors and simple movement scores we sometimes try to be more than two. At other times we will tried to disappear amongst the tires like a kind of constantly shifting “Where’s Wally”.
